FAQ
Straight answers about payments.
The questions merchants ask us most — answered without the fine print.
What is an independent payments partner?
In the payments industry, independent sales organizations and independent agents partner with processors and acquiring banks to bring payment acceptance to businesses. Because independent providers like Argos work with multiple partners, we can match you with the right solution instead of forcing the one product we own.
Will I have to sign a long contract?
It depends on the program — several we represent offer month-to-month options. Whatever the program, we'll put every term in writing, including the length and what it costs to leave, and walk you through it before you sign. No commitment gets buried in fine print.
Do you offer free equipment?
Some programs include equipment placement at no upfront cost; others price hardware outright. In this industry, “free” always comes with program requirements — so we'll show you in writing exactly what a placement requires in exchange, and compare it honestly with just buying the device.
Can you save me money if I already have a processor?
Usually — but we'll tell you honestly if we can't. Share a recent statement during your rate review and we'll show you the comparison in plain numbers.
How fast will I get my money?
Deposit timing depends on the processor and program — next-business-day funding is common across the platforms we represent, and same-day funding options exist on some programs, subject to approval and batch timing. It's one of the first things we map out in your recommendation, along with batch cutoff times and anything that could delay a deposit, so you know exactly what to expect before you commit.
Is accepting cards secure?
Modern payment platforms protect card data with encryption and tokenization, so sensitive numbers stay out of your systems, and the processing partners we work with maintain PCI DSS compliance programs. We'll also help you stay on top of your own annual PCI requirements so you avoid non-compliance fees.
Do you work with new businesses?
Absolutely. We help first-time merchants get set up with the right equipment and pricing from day one — no statement required.
What if my business is considered high-risk?
Tell us about it. Through our partner network we work to place many specialty and harder-to-approve business types.
When would you tell me NOT to use Argos?
When it's true. Very small card volume is often served genuinely cheaper by a flat-rate aggregator; a fair existing setup earns a written "keep what you have"; and if your category can't realistically be placed through our programs, we say so before any paperwork — not after.
Interviewing processors?
We published the eleven questions to ask any of them — including us — with what a straight answer sounds like, and what a red flag sounds like.
